Put Your Instagram on Your Google Profile

August 30, 2026

To add Instagram to your Google Business Profile, open the profile, choose Edit profile, then Business information, then Contact. Under Social profiles, pick Instagram, paste your profile link and save. It takes about two minutes, and it puts your grid one tap away for everyone who searches your name.

There is a dropdown inside your Google Business Profile that most people have never opened. It lets you put your Instagram directly on the panel that comes up when somebody searches your name, and it takes about two minutes.

Google supports Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X and YouTube, at one link per network. Almost nobody in your category has bothered.

How do you add Instagram to your Google Business Profile?

Open your Business Profile and choose Edit profile, then Business information, then Contact. Under Social profiles, pick Instagram from the dropdown, paste your profile URL, save. That is the entire job.

Why link Instagram to your Google profile?

Seventy-five per cent of consumers use more than one channel during a single search for a local business. They are not browsing, they are cross-checking, and 30 per cent of them touch social media somewhere in that process.

Without the link, that cross-check is a fresh search where anything can happen, including finding a competitor or an account that is not yours. With it, the hop is one tap and it lands exactly where you want it.

They are going to check your Instagram anyway.

You may as well decide which account they land on, and how few taps it takes to get there.

The AI angle nobody mentions

This has become more useful in the last year, not less. When people get a business recommendation from AI, only 18 per cent are ready to make contact without verifying it first. Forty-three per cent go back to Google and 39 per cent go and look at social.

Follow that path. AI names you, they search you, they land on your Google panel, and the thing they were about to go looking for is sitting right there. You have collapsed three steps into one at precisely the moment they are deciding.

Profile completeness also showed up as one of the signals correlating with visibility in AI search, and social links are part of a complete profile.

What your grid is doing for you

Your Google panel is constrained. A few photos, a rating, some categories, hours. Your Instagram is where the texture lives: faces, work in progress, the thing you made last week, evidence that there are humans behind this.

For anyone selling something visual or personal, that is the difference between a business that looks legitimate and one somebody actually wants. The panel proves you exist. The grid makes you the choice.

One condition on all this

Only link the account if it is current. A profile whose last post is from 2024 confirms the exact doubt the person was checking for, and you have handed it to them in one tap. If your grid has gone quiet, sort that first, then add the link.

While you are in there

You have the profile open, so use the visit. Add the other network you keep up, check the phone number is the one you answer, upload something taken this month, and look at whether your primary category is still the narrowest accurate description of what you do.

The whole set of five things that make that panel work is in the piece on Google Business Profile. This one is the fastest of them.

Questions I get asked

Which social accounts can I add to my Google Business Profile?

Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X and YouTube. You get one link per network, so pick the account you actually keep current if you run more than one.

Where exactly is the setting?

In your Business Profile, go to Edit profile, then Business information, then Contact. Under Social profiles, choose Instagram from the dropdown, paste your profile URL and save. It takes about two minutes.

Will linking Instagram help me rank?

Treat it as a conversion move rather than a ranking one. Its job is to catch the 39 per cent of people who go and check your social before they get in touch, and to give a half-decided person somewhere to be convinced.
